Impose Magazine Interview

Impose Magazine Feature

Impose Mag Bothers Cool-Aide

It’s a new year (Happy New Year!) and we hope you got your copy of “Flavor Ade” already. If not then you are missing out on the party!

Impose Magazine however is NOT missing out on the party!

Before the year closed out a good guy by the name of Sjimon Gompers called us up while I made pasta and we chopped it up for a few hours. It was kinda like talking to a long lost friend or relative.

The result is this feature “Bothering Cool-Aide”

Enjoy

Flavor Ade New London Release Party Recap!

Blacastan & KWOTE Scriptures

First of all I want to say that the New London Release Party was a fun time and a great success. Only one of the many Cool-Aide parties to come, Chum and I aimed to make the event more of a party than a rap show. We had the incomparable KWOTE Scriptures hosting the evening. He was very funny, engaging, and added flavor to the evening. We also had Blacastan perform. He rocked a dope set as well. Fishr Pryce was on the tables briefly as well. I personally would have liked to see him rock out some more but it was great to seehim killin’ it in Philly. We had a tweetboard that made for a lot of funny moments during the evening and in a lot of ways may have helped bring people start doing things they may not have otherwise done that evening.

We had a lot of good people in the building that evening and rather than have me tell you

Lemme tweet that!

what I thought of the show, I figured I’d have them tell you in their own words. I mean you already have “Flavor Ade” I imagine you’ve had enough of me bragging. Here we go! All pictures by Michele Pacheco!

The party definitely doesn’t stop after the jump!

KevinNottingham.com Flavor Ade review

Flavor Ade gets a 7 out of 10

The reviews keep coming in and people keep wanting to join the Cool-Aide party!

They say:

Cool-Aide attempts to liven things up a little bit and they do. MiC K!NG shows that he is fully capable of handling the solo MC task. He can spit; his flow and one-liners are something that the listener can appreciate on the album. There are times that the boasting lyrics over the high tempo breaks do get tired, and may have you taking a break from the LP. But, there are also instances that this hits homes with the listener, and has the crowd jumping. The feel of this album really all depends on what kind of mood you are in; if you are in an upbeat, party type of mood, then you will really enjoy this album.

KevinNottingham.com is feeling the flavor. You get your glass yet?

Kevin Nottingham helps the best rapper take aim

The good folks at KevinNottingham.com help introduce you to MiC K!NG!

They say:

Hailing from Philadelphia,  MiC K!NG (formerly iCON the Mic King) has had a long career and first gained notoriety on the battle circuit. Winner of several rap battle competitions around the globe, MiC K!NG proved his ability to create lyrics on the spot, and achieved success in this arena until 2001, when he officially retired from battling to pursue composition and recording as a solo artist. In 2004, he released his first studio album Intricate Spectrum and has since released Mike and the Fatman and Rent Money Music II: C-Notes for the Car Note. His latest release, Flavor Ade with producer Chum as the group Cool Aide, MiC K!NG shows that he’s in this game for good.

Skope Mag Gives Flavor Ade 4 out 5!

Skope Mag gives Flavor Ade a 4 out of 5

Skope Mag gives Flavor Ade a 4 out of 5

The music industry may be asleep…well on vacation…they sleep on us even when they are are at work…but the reviews for Flavor Ade keep coming in! The good folks at Skope Magazine gave us a 4 out of 5!

Cool Aide, a refreshing hip-hop duo featuring MiC K!NG (f/k/a iCON the Mic King) and Chum (f/k/a Chum the Skrilla Guerilla),  now holds a permanent spot in my iTunes library.  In what will hopefully be the first of many releases by Cool Aide, “Flavor Ade” starts with “Snake Oil”, a track that wastes little time before hitting the ground running with a fun, upbeat feel…and even a mention of Cobra Commander!

They go on to give an pretty thorough play by play of the album only faltering when they fail to realize “I’m All That 2009″ is in fact a remake of a Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince track.

Check out the rest of the review

Shouts to Skope Magazine. Thanks for the love!

MiC K!NG tells you why you can't find the album

MiC K!NG tells you why you can't find the album

Last week on the eve of our release date I stayed up all night making a video explaining what I don’t like about dealing with indie distributors. This was certainly not a direct shot at my current distribution, because I did it the night before our album came out.

However, here it is a week later and a lot of the things I said in this video do unfortunately stand true. I’m not complaining right now because a lot of people have gone out of their way to find the record in whatever way it took them to do so and I very much appreciate them for it.

With that said, head over to Urb.com and check out the “Top 5 Reasons Indie Distro Sucks.”

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support us and the new record!

DJ Booth.Net Loves "Snake Oil"

The good folks at DJBooth.Net showed big love to “Snake Oil” ft. Slug of Atmosphere on our new “Flavor Ade” release.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to hop in the DeLorean and take a trip back to the ‘90s. MiC K!ng & Chum, making their first appearance on the Booth, are here to deliver their new single, Snake Oil, a Marty McFly joint off their recently released album, Flavorade. K!ng puts his rhyming skills to use over some throwback production from Chum, keeping the energy high with witty, lyrical content that at times can get pretty heavy…

Head over to DJBooth.net and leave your comments on the track!

Flavor Ade Is In Stores TODAY!

Today (December 8th) my new group album with Chum entitled “Flavor Ade” featuring Slug of Atmosphere, eLZHi of Slum Village, and Has-Lo drops and I’m excited! We have two release parties this weekend. One in Philly on Friday the 11th and one in New London, CT on Saturday the 12th. The flyers are at the end of this. I hope you guys can make it out.

For me it’s the time for reinvention, the time for progress…shit, it’s the time for some good music!

IT’s pretty ironic how Mike and the Fatman became Cool-Aide (and iCON the Mic King became MiC K!NG and Chum the Skrilla Guerilla became Chum). It was the beginning of 2008 and Chum and I had decided we’d make a sequel to “Mike and the Fatman.” The plan was to make it really dark but also really polished. Dark cinematic music has been my sound for years so of course I was down to make more of the same however I’d been working on a lot of the Robots with Hearts stuff with musical genius Animals on Wheels and I’d been experimenting with a lot of different things like singing (badly), rapping melodies, etc. I played him some joints particularly “Downward Spiral” (available on iTunes via Tape Records) and I believe that same day Chum gave me the beat for “Kind of a Woman.”
